The city of Luther Wittenberg is a district city in Germany, in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, on the river Elbe. Located 100 km from Berlin and 70 km from Leipzig. In the 16th century it was a major center of German cultural, scientific and political life, played a prominent role in the early Reformation, was the site of Martin Luther's activities, as well as the family of famous medieval lawyers Karptsov. The city has a developed chemical, rubber and electrical industries. There is Halle-Wittenberg University. It was first mentioned in 1180.
Among the main tourist attractions of the city of Lutherstadt Wittenberg is the Church of All Saints, or the Castle Church (Schlosskirche), built in the period 1496-1506. In 1517, Martin Luther attached his 95 theses to the door of its main entrance, which was used as a bulletin board. The church was severely damaged in 1760 during the Seven Years' War, then rebuilt, and finally rebuilt between 1885 and 1892. The historic wooden doors to which Luther attached his theses burned down in 1760. In 1858 it was replaced by a bronze door, on which the text of 95 theses in Latin was cast.
